CHESS deck series is set in the 17th-century Baroque period of the Holy Roman Empire, creating a world view of a mirror-interwoven twin royal courts. The White Court is modeled after the Prague Crystal Palace, featuring Rococo-style gilded decorations and colorful glass domes; the black court is inspired by the Bratislava Fortress, presenting a dual image of dark red velvet curtains and bronze relief structures in the Gothic style. The two female chess players respectively control the two power systems of light and chaos, projecting a dual metaphor of royal power struggles and theological games in the chessboard confrontation.
